Ronald Swart, 71, of Holland, passed away Friday, January 15, 2016 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus.
Ron was a member of Providence Christian Reformed Church and had previously been an elder and Sunday school teacher. He also served as the church librarian; so, he leaves behind many special children from the church library.
Ron grew up in Whitinsville, MA and received degrees from Calvin College and the University of Michigan.
Ron was a Latin and English teacher as well as librarian at Zeeland Public High School for 36 years. After retiring in 2002, he actively volunteered at Providence Church and Ditto Upscale Resale Store, benefiting Holland Christian Schools. He enjoyed golfing, woodworking and traveling.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Elsie (Baker) Swart; and sister-in-law, Carol Deaney.
Ron is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Deaney) Swart; daughters, Stephanie Swart, Lansing, Katherine Swart, Grand Rapids; brothers, John and Joann Swart, Sarasota, FL, Calvin and Trena Swart, Poughkeepsie, NY; brother-in-law, Richard and Barbara Deaney, Little Silver, NJ; nieces and nephews.
Memorial services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 20 at Providence Church, 821 Ottawa Ave, Holland, with Rev. Bryan VanSoelen and Rev. Keith Doornbos officiating. Burial will be in Graafschap Cemetery. Visitation is 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 19 at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E 16th St., Holland. Memorial contributions may be made to World Renew North American Disaster Relief, Holland Christian Schools Endowment Fund and Zeeland Public Schools Literacy Advocates Endowment Fund.
