After graduating from Northbridge High, I attended Clark University. Graduated from Clark in 1965 with a BA in Chemistry. I then attended grad school at the University of Utah, where I received a Ph.D. in Chemistry. I taught one year at the university then took a job teaching in North Adams, MA. For four summer from 1972 through 1976 did archaeo-astronomy research in the Yucatan jungle. Studied the alignment of temples to celestial positions and relative relationships of the buildings to the shifting magnetic poles. In 1972 established a company EduCraft whose goals were to produce software for the educational benefit of teachers and students of chemistry. Developed a Chemistry website to aid students and teachers better understand the complex world of chemical systems. The website was so successful that colleges and univerisities in the US, Canada and England incorporated it into their curriculum. In 2001 I was given the high honor of becoming a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry at Oxford University. After 40 years of teaching I finally decided to retire.
Side note: In 1975 I worked with an oncololist, Dr Martine Mulder, and we came up with a treatment for reversing the effects of reticulum cell sarcoma which my wife contracted ( life expectency 6 to 12 months) the only drawback is that it damages the heart. Well,how successful was the treatment? Joan is still alive after 36 yrs and the cancer has never reocurred but her heart has been damaged to the point that she is in and out of hospitals in the last 5 years. Her heart muscles damage is irreversable and weakens as time goes on. She now has less than a year to live. I guess there is no free lunch. So if i don't see you next September you'll know why.
In February 23, 2016 Joan died of heart failure. Her death was peaceful. I will truly miss my best friend of 48 years.
